    arctic drummer
    [soapstone-mo]

    PRICE$390.00

V 11 cm (3.5 ") base 9cm X 9cm (3.5" x3.5") 740 grams Gilbert Daniels has portrayed a classic figure of an Arctic drummer, caught at the height of a stroke soon to crash down on the hand-held disc of the drumhead. The interior disc of the drum is a slice of caribou antler and the drum cover is moose hide. The drumstick is also a sliver of antler. The entire piece is deep green soapstone, polished to a high sheen. The piece is fist-sized, and would be easy to fit into a shadow box frame, or placed in a special place where it will stand out for the powerful piece that it is. Gilbert Daniels works with the Foredom carving grinder, using various sizes of drill bit to create the precise, carefully articulated works of art in the Inuit style. He himself is of the Athabasca/Chipewyan Nation in Northwest Territory. He comes to Vancouver from time to time with his family to meet friends and to sell his art to a widening range of patrons.
