    Sun Feather on Cedar
    [original on ]

    PRICE$115.00

Dene artist Chris Turo regularly elaborates upon his work, creating striking new patterns and shapes within the framework of carved feathers, created from red or yellow cedar. This feather, which Chris as entitled “sun,” is on red cedar. It is centred on a sun figure, the rays shooting out from the centrepiece which is a medicine wheel. It is possible to think of the scattering of white dots at the pointed tip of the feather as dawn stars appearing. The sun/medicine while has the traditional four colours, each representing key elements of life. Depending on the artist, the cultural heritage, and the purposes of the wheel, the quadrants may represent the four directions (N/E/S/W), the four elements (air, fire, water, earth), the seasons, or even the time of day. The feather has a leather thong wrapped around it’s tip and this makes it very easy to hang on its own, or it may be placed in a shadow box (as one of Chris’ recent clients did, sending a picture from their home in Quebec so he could see how well it looked). The dimensions are: Length 21”x W 3”, ¼” thick. Weight 60 grams
