    Night loon- golden moon
    [artst orig]

    PRICE$200.00

Night Loon—Golden Moon -- If you know the loon, you know this beautiful image created by Cree artist Garnet Tobacco. If you haven’t had the joy of hearing the eerie, wobbling, keening call of the loon on some northern lake in the summer, you can still have a sense of it through steadily absorbing the colours and shapes of this painting. Garnett is from Manitoba, where loons still glide on the surfaces of the many lakes, dive for tiny fish, and awkwardly come up on the low edges of marsh and lakeside to build their nests and raise their striped young. Through the use of sponges, not brushes, Garnet Tobacco creates his distinctive pieces, resonant of the flowing lines of prairie painters, such as his inspiration, Isaac Bignell. This paining is on sturdy paint board, using acrylic paints. The stunted trees of the boreal forest stand in profile on a point of land reaching into the lake, there is an evening mist, and the gold-flecked moon rises, with a scattering of stars completing this dreamlike, but very real picture that haunts the artist’s dream – as it will yours.
