    Pale Salmon
    [original]

    PRICE$444.00

This carving of a salmon, by Squamish artist, David Gonzales, strongly conveys the movement of the salmon as it traverses the sea and struggles its way up streams to recreate itself and then to slip back toward the ocean, fading away along shorelines as its life ebbs away. David has concentrated on building the almost iridescent surface of the fish, with a minimal use of actual carving cuts and incisions and a maximal use of his design concept and the subtle use of just a few colours. The abalone eye adds a moment of luminous reflection and the high polish of the surface of the carving overall gives this whole piece a sense of one-ness with the infinitely valued (and increasingly endangered) wild salmon of the West Coast. Yellow cedar and acrylic, V 24” X H 24”, 9”thick,458 grams.
