    fancy dancers
    [artboard-acr]

    PRICE$100.00

v43xh 26 cm (v17"xh10") Garnet Tobacco brings a dramatic presence to all of his work. Here we see a man in one of the many kinds of regalia for "fancy dancer" events at PowWows or other cultural events, and a woman in a sweeping dancer's shawl. They are probably waiting in the wings of a big stadium or open field, or large gym, with the drums calling them to make their entry into the centre of music, movement, cultural and spiritual sharing with the community -- both Aboriginal/Indian and others. PowWows have many functions, but sharing in community is on of the main ones. This is a mid-sized painting, done in Garnet Tobacco's distinctive technique of using sponges instead of brushes for all of the larger painted areas, and then using fine brushes to the trailing lines sweeping from each of the figures. The material is a heavy artist's "rag board", acid-free.
