    Bear Feast-Salmon Run

    PRICE$85.00

Bear Feasting in Salmon Run George Matilpi, of the Kwakiutl Nation, from Alert Bay, has been carving for many years. He lives in Vancouver, combining various jobs with his vocation of carving. George’s carvings often tell a story, with many elements fit into a relatively small space. This begins as a shoreline picture, with a bear eating a salmon from the green stream below. At the same time, there is an orca in the distance, reflecting the fact that the salmon spend years in the ocean before returning to their original stream or river to spawn. All of the activity of these creatures is overseen by the rays of the sun, coming in from the upper right corner of the frame. This is a plaque, lightweight, easily handled and hung. Its story is of an eternal relationship, one becoming precarious with the growing harm to our global environment. v18h40cmx2.5thk (v 7” x h 16” X 1” )
