    seal talks with raven
    [original]

    PRICE$560.00

David Gonzales, of the Squamish Nation, sometimes finds that a theme for a carving comes to him and then he creates it in the wood, and at other times a piece evolves to its completed form and he then is “given” its theme. The latter process is the one for this stunning piece. David calls it Seal Talks To Raven, embodying the two of most clever of the creatures of the sea and of the air. It is not a portrayal of a real-world interaction, but of one at an imaginary or envisioned level. In any case, it is a fascinating, intriguing carving, substantial in size, but very light in weight, in that it is carved from yellow cedar. It is lightly stained a soft metallic gray, burnished to a high gloss, which reflects the contours from every angle of light. Truly a collector’s dream. Length 32”, vertical 9”, 1” at thickest part. 1011 grams.
