    human image-box chest
    [Limited edit]

    PRICE$63.00

Haida artist Eric Parnell has been engaged to design pictorial images for carved tables and the bent boxes for which the Haida are famed. This is a complex work, using the horizontal format that would be transferable to a funeral box or a chest holding family heirlooms or objects such as ceremonial blankets that could be given as gifts in the traditional potlatch. The central figures – and there are two of them – is a human being. The upper figure, the “echoing” double image that Eric Parnell often uses, which it a Haida artistic tradition. The lower figure is a single face, set between the upraised hands, a traditional gesture of welcome – one seen often today in a very wide range of ceremonies and other activities led by Aboriginal peoples of the Northwest Coast. The central images are framed by ovoid figures, also typical of this distinctive artistic tradition. Limited Edition (out of 100), acrylic paint on heavy art card. V 11” xH15”
