    woodpecker-bright colours
    [original]

    PRICE$63.00

This is a charming piece, by Saulteaux artist, Stephanie Kewistep. As with all of her work, Stephanie uses firm, spare lines to convey the essence of the creature, rather than giving a literal portrayal of it. This crisp, bright painting certainly shows the perky, always upright nature of the woodpecker family. The majority of species are shades of red, white, and black, and we see this here, with highlights of “introduced” blue, which set off its wings and lower body. The outline of the sun behind it is a lovely frame for the piece as a whole. Acrylic on heavy framing cardboard. V 10 ½ x H 11” 50 grams
